Every year downtown Yarmouth plays host to a number of reenactors that come together to recreate the British military tradition that exists in this part of Nova Scotia. Although, many might find it an unlikely site for a British reenactment given the tragic affects of the Acadian expulsion the reality remains that a number of those citizens had indeed once more made their claim in Nova Scotia when the first guns of the American Revolution were fired. The British recruits answered the threat of American privateers with the resounding echo of their muskets to protect settlers of both English and French descent.
This years event will take place from August 31 - September 2 and will include an encampment, military drill demonstrations, firing demonstrations, competition for the 1st Annual Garth Dalton Memorial Cup for best drill team from the American Revolution period. For information on the drill competition click here. Everyone interested in participating in the event is asked to contact the sponsor unit, His Majesty's Royal Fencible American Regiment of Foot. The contact person for this unit is their chairperson Lili M. Muise whom may be reached at lmuise@swsda.com To view a brief history and the mandate of the unit prepared by their membership click here.
