American Rebels Preparing to Attack Fort Point during Privateer Days in LiverpoolThis South Shore town was the centre of privateering in Nova Scotia from the American Revolution to the close of the War of 1812.  The annual Privateer Days festival in early July recreates the atmosphere of this exciting period in Canada's past with help from the local re-enactors including the King's Orange Rangers.

Some members of the King's Orange Rangers and other groups dressed as American sailors are shown here at Fort Point Lighthouse Park being led by a turncoat soldier in the re-enactment of the American capture of the fortifications in September of 1780, the year that the festival recreates.

Several turncoats within the regiment helped angry American sailors capture the fortifications in reprisal for the seizure of a number of American vessels by Liverpool's privateers; however, the townspeople united with the remaining soldiers not captured and soon proved too cunning for the American invaders who were in turn captured and made to capitulate, releasing the fort.
