The stonework walls of the reconstructed Fortress Louisbourg are impressive feat in restorative creation, paralleled only by the dedication to recreating a truly 18th century atmosphere by the staff and volunteers that make this site a must see when visiting Nova Scotia's Cape Breton Island.

Once the center of the French Empire in North America the recreation of the fortress is massive and includes residences, barracks, tradeshops, taverns and even the Frédéric Gate to the harbour shown here behind two of the reenactors (a father and daughter duo) from the King's Orange Rangers, albeit in their Cobb's Rangers gear, which represents the time period of the French Indian Wars, predating the KOR's existence during the American Revolution.

A major reenactment took place at Fortress Louisbourg during the summer of 2008 and the King's Orange Rangers laid down their redcoats and took up the "uniform" of Cobb's Rangers to take part in this massive reenactment at the Fortress Louisbourg.  Click here to view photos from the 2008 Fortress Louisbourg Celebration!
