Started in 2006 the Pirates of Jeddore Festival owes its origins to a few
friends searching for a way to throw a good party. By no means is this
festival a typical reenactment, but captures the publics imagination
regarding
the topic of pirates as has been brought to the fore front in recent years by
numerous movies including the wildly popular Pirates of the Caribbean films
staring Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley.
The enthusiasm of this small community to en
courage
looting, plundering and havoc of all nature as associated with pirates is
evident by the effort taken by the sailor in this picture to convert a modern
aluminum boat to a ship of sail. Rigged with a decrepit fore n aft sail,
fitted with a small bow spirit and adorned with purposefully placed coils of
rope this vessel could pass as a small wooden hull ship from a spy glass at sea.
But to have been left with such a small vessel this fellow may have fallen on
hard times as it is not unsimilar to the one Jack Sparrow always finds himself
in when his beloved Black Pearl disappears in the Pirates of the Caribbean
movies.
This year the marauding Pirates of Jeddore may have their work cut out for them, as King George III has ordered their trade to be stopped as it is becoming a nuisance to shipping. The King's Orange Rangers, Captain John Howard's company, have been dispatched from Liverpool, Nova Scotia to wage a pitched battle against the pirates. To find out whether pirates shall roam the streets of Jeddore or they shall dance with the devil at the docks you must attend the festival! To find out more details on the festival be sure to visit their website and contact their organizers!
