The King's Orange Rangers like many units in the American Revolution would
have had there preferred songs to sing while in camp and on the march, and very
little has changed. At encampments the evening is usually greeted by a
warming fire and the slow appeara
nce of both period and non-period instruments
and songs. In particular, at many King's Orange Rangers events our
association with Liverpool's infamous privateers often quickly emerges as
several of our members often take on the roles of privateers, which means a
number of our favourite camp songs are songs of the sea.
We would like to provide a database of songs that other reenactors and our
own members can use to help them learn their favourite tune to ensure the
campfire remains a place of good cheer. Songs are grouped by three themes
military, nautical or other and when possible
we have indicated any related history or whether the song is period specific.
Many of the songs here have been retyped from listening to the songs, so
spelling or word errors are possible. If you see a lyric that has been
recorded incorrectly please let us know. In addition, we have placed
additional verses to many songs written by our
members
and we encourage you to share your favourite verses with us so we can post them
as well. Please keep in mind that we do appreciate your "after dark"
versus (those that make their appearance after children are long asleep) and
songs so send them along, but in the interest of maintaining a family website
certain versus and songs can not be posted on our site. Most songs have
been put into Microsoft Word files so that you can easily edit them to include
your own versus, if you can't open a song that you want email us and we will
send you a pdf copy.
